A few thoughts about my personal philosophy. I consider myself a conservative Republican. But I support stem cell research, I would like to see strong gun control laws, I see no reason for religion to enter politics, I support abortion rights, and I'll think of some more ways I differ from my party.
What I don't agree with, are tax and spend, a socialistic type government, the present anti-war movements, open borders. But I know this country was developed by immigration, and we must find a way to legalize the process. I believe English should be mandatory for citizenship. I believe we are contributing to global warming, even if we are not the primary cause. I want to see our automobile industry really do something about reducing our oil dependency. At present, hybrids are the only answer being practical, and I'm glad to see Detroit finally tackling the problem. I would support big gas tax increase, if it was used to further our energy independance.
Some of this sounds contradictory, but to me, it isn't.
I feel like I should address religion. I was raised a strict Episcopalion, but the war and the holocaust changed my belief in God as it is taught in all churches. Some thing had to be at the beginning, but that was so long ago, I can't imagine anything lasting that long. Also, if God is so loving, how could He or She allow holcausts. Marge now has Alzheimers, and so I am going to
church again, she can't drive. Is this Hypcritical on my part, i don't know.
Anway, a few thoughts, I'll probably add to it after a while

Bob, I've been a registered Democrat all my voting life; in Florida until recently that was the only game around. But times do change--I'm still comfortable being a Democrat, but I did vote for Crist, and twice for Bronson.

My one thought when I read your post was: we need more republicans like you.

Warm Regards!

By the way, I've read all of your blog, from the beginning, and check for new postings daily.

I love to hear your thoughts on the world, dad. Keep posting them. This is an important resource for archiving our WWII veterans ideas about the world. I'm so proud of you and how much you have done for freedom and mom and me and bob and julie and the grandkids. You're a great dad!

I'm not sure I agree about English being mandatory for citizenship, though. Immigrants throughout history have come here using their native tongues. Sometimes only the next generation mastered English but their parents still contributed to this great country.
